December 3rd. Class; The Editing Process

This Saturday, December 3rd. we will start our editing process.  You MUST bring your first draft PRINTED to class. We will be working with your PRINTED work IN CLASS! If you do not have your work, there is nothing for you to do in class. Please, bring it, we only have two more classes where you will be turning in final projects and presenting.

I remind you that next Saturday, December 10th. your final assignment is due, that is, your final draft already edited and corrected & your power point presentation ready to go.  If you fail to bring your first draft to our Saturday, December 3rd. class, it will be virtually impossible for you to have your work ready for the due date and you WILL GET A ZERO.

I will NOT give special treatment to any of you, everybody has the same due dates.

November 12th Class

Dear Upward Bound students,

On tomorrow’s class we will be working on the body of our on-going essay practice.  Bring your topics, outline and thesis statement so we can start working on organizing our ideas in the body of our paper.  We will have a presentation on how to construct a well organized and cohesive paragraph and we will practice in class. Bring any material you have collected in order to get the ideas on to your essay. Bring your notes, articles or any other material to work in class.

Also, tomorrow I expect every single one of you to have your adopted author’s book. I will ask you to give the class a brief glimpse into the biography of your author.

Leave ALL of your excuses at home.

H. Ugarte

Author Adoption Program

Hello students, here is the list of authors and students:

If you were absent the assignment was to look up several biographies of your author, so you could get to know him/her, and write, with your own words (NOT copy and paste), a biography of your own (2 page minimum).

You will also select a book your author wrote and either buy it used on Amazone for a couple of dollars or chek it out at a local library.  You will become an expert on this particular book as you will work on it for the entire year in it. Periodically I will ask you to update the class in your particular book and assignments will be based on your particular book also.

UPdates!

Hello class!

Please check for corrections to the syllabus; basically since last week the class was cancelled I made a correction to it.

Please subscribe to my blog so you can receive updates automatically, so far, only one student has subscribed to it.  I will take points off your grade if you delay to do so.

This Saturday we will have a lot of work since the last class was cancelled, so expect to get busy and to do some serious homework.

If you can not see the video online (homework movie) please look for it at your local video rental store.  We will talk about it in class.

There should be no excuse to NOT see the movie on-line, I just checked and its viewable at the following link:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VT50SV3W5K0

I’ll see you in a few hours, remember that you are being graded after every class session; so bring your homework typed.  Do not fall behind and bring the best possible attitude to class; remeber that attitude and choice are your best assets.
